Bright stellar center with mottled whorls around it at 130x. Core elongated roughly E-W. 10 mag star to NW, 8+ mag star to S. At 168x, looks more elongated. 3-4 stellar clumps near core. Margins irregular, but distinct. AV shows oval halo extending almost to 10 mag star.

At 130x, very compact with bright star-like core. 14mm radian (168x) shows a bright, smooth, circular core area. At 235x, halo become more oval (N-S). There is a 12+ mag star just to W.

M-82. At 73x, large, bright, mottled streak with 11+ mag star near S end. Hint of dark lane cutting across halo. At 130x, center of halo shows cloud-like mottling & stellar glimmers. Ends extend out, esp with AV, well past field star. Image holds up at 235x -- dark lane very apparent & central clouds show bright clumps, especially well-defined toward field star.

Visible in finder as a hazy patch to W of two 7-8 mag stars. At 73x, the "spindle galaxy" does look like that. Stellar center, bright elongated core and halo fading out to points at each end. View in 14mm (168x) superior to photos. Central bright streak at core, with some dark lanes causing gaps in mottling. Halo is very curdled, aligned NE-SW. 13 mag star just to S.
