Renewable Energy
Renewable Energy is gradually making its way into the energy marketplace. Once thought too expensive and impractical for wide use, wind turbine generators have become a common sight in European countries such as Germany, where over 400 megawatts of new capacity (the equivalent of a typical U.S. power plant) were installed in 1996.

In remote Colorado mountain areas, solar electric and heating systems have been successfully teamed with small wind turbines to provide clean power for cabins and research experiments for years.

In 1998, the first large wind plant to supply power to Colorado will be installed by the Public Service Company.
